SAS Nagar: Man loses Rs 1.4 lakh to trickster inside Axis bank

Posing himself as a helper of the bank, an unidentified man tricked a customer to deprive him of  Rs 1.41 lakh at Axis Bank, Phase 7, in SAS Nagar on Saturday. The victim Gujant Singh, owner of a saloon in Sector 71 and a native of Samana in Patiala, visited the bank to deposit the cash.


Gurjant said the accused met him when he was filling the cash deposit slip at the bank. The man started guiding him regarding how to deposit cash as Gurjant visited the said bank for the first time. Gurjant said the man portrayed as if he was a bank employee and was also communicating with the bank staff.












He said when he went to the counter, the dealing hand asked him to update his permanent account number (PAN).  When Gurjant was filling the PAN form, the man asked him to handover the cash, which he did and the man was nowhere to be seen after that. When Gurjant couldn’t find him, he raised an alarm and started asking the employees about the man.











A police team, including a DSP and an inspector, reached the spot. Superintendent of police (city), Ashish Kapoor, said the CCTV footage clearly showed the face of the man and efforts were on to identify and nab him.

In the CCTV footage, the man could be seen going from counter to counter, as if he was an employee of the bank.
Mataur SHO, Mahesh Saini, said a case had been registered and efforts were on to nab him.
